I don't speak "Tech", but I need a website built for me. Will I need to learn html?
Can I use any images I want on the site?
You can use any images for which licensing has been granted or has a open license. Many images on the web are owned and therefore need to be licensed prior to being displayed on your site.
There are numerous websites that offer low cost images that you can freely use.
You can always use images of yourself or your business without worrying about having to pay someone. Just be careful about using someone else's images without their consent.
In order to prepare for this, you will be sent a document called "Website Media Preparation Guide". You can read more about it here.
What is web hosting and how much does it cost?
Web Hosting is a service by which a company keeps your website files (hosting) on their computers (web servers) so that multiple people all around the world can access your site at the same time.
Hosting services are typically under $10 per month (some as low as $3.99), but it can vary depending on what additional services you want.
You might be thinking about free hosting and that's fine. Just be aware that you may not have all of the options that a paid hosting service would provide such as support and expandability.
Will I have to take down my existing website while you build the new one?
No, your current website can stay up and running. You're web host will designate a space in which your new website can be built. It will usually be accessed by a different name or an IP address.
When the build process is over and you're ready to switch over, your web host will point all of your traffic to the new space and rename that space to your site name.
Why would I need a web ad?
Think of a web ad as a billboard or a tv commercial. It gets your product or service in front of viewers of other people's websites. You benefit from their traffic.
Basically it works like this: You strike a deal with another website to show your ad. They show your ad and promote thier site like they normally would. Visitors see your ad while browsing thier site and click on it. The ad brings them to your site.
Check out the major news sites. They use web ads all the time. They work.
Why shouldn't I sign with one of those companies that charge much less?
What is a Squeeze Page?
A Squeeze Page is a single web page that promotes an event, service, or product without linking via menu items to other pages.
The best way to visualize a Squeeze Page is to simply picture a common event flyer.
Cost: Since a Squeeze Page is a single page, the cost is $70.

Do I have to purchase a domain or can I let my computer guy do it?
You can, of course, have anyone you want secure your domain, but be mindful of who actually owns your domain.
Although the person who is performing this task for you may have the best of intentions, sometimes they can make the mistake of purchasing the domain in their own name. This makes them the owner of your domain.
In the worst case scenario, that person has a legal right to block your use of that domain name.
Be sure that if you have someone else purchase your domain for you, that you immediately get that domain legally transferred to you. Each web hosting company can walk you through this process.
What is a "Domain"?
A domain can best be described as your space on the Internet. You will have a domain name (ex: www.canalestech.com) which will be the pointer to the files that make up your website.
When people type your domain name into a web browser, they are directed to your web files that reside on a web server that is being managed by your web hosting company.
